Laser cutting technique: A literature review

Laser technology is beginning to play a bigger role in the industrial sector these days. This is due to the laser❼superior accuracy than other technologies. As a result of the laser cutting materials, there will be reduced site effect, resulting in higher-quality goods. As a result, lasers are increasingly being used in the manufacturing process. The materials used for laser classification can differ based on the laser type. The CO2 laser is used to cut most thick metal materials, such as metal plates and reinforced metal plates. The CO2 laser has a higher energy level than the others as a result of this. Normally, the cutting procedure for bigger metal plates necessitates more energy. We need to focus on the ratio between the thickness and the strength of the material, according to the optimal cutting process. The advantage of laser cutting is that very fine welds, even thinner than the thickness of the material, may be formed. Metals such as carbon-aluminum and stainless steel can reflect light and heat the conductor. This may have an impact on the quality of laser cutting techniques in some cases. The most effective option is to boost energy levels and use pressurised gas technology. However, if the energy level rises, the budget for connecting tools such as gas filters, which must be updated more regularly, may rise as well. Some research trials on characteristics that affect production quality, such as kerf width, kerf deviation, kerf taper, heat affected zone (HAZ), dross development, and surface roughness, have been published in the literature. Other materials, such as CO2 laser cutting on thermoplastics (polymethylmethacrylate, polycarbonate, and polypropylene) with grey relational parameter analysis, can be utilized instead of steels, aluminums, or stainless steels. Riveiro et al. also investigated cutting with a CO2 laser with a parameter of 3 mm for carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRPs) and 10 mm for natural granite without influencing kerf width, taper angle, or HAZ width. Other applications of CNC laser cutting machine used in automotive industry, die, mold, and tool industries, jewelry industry, medical device manufacturing, ceramic manufacturing, silicon manufacturing.
