Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Clean Motion has unveiled a new solar-powered delivery tricycle designed for use in urban areas – which the firm claims is five times more efficiency than a 'conventional' EV.
The EVIG – apparently it translates as 'eternal' in Swedish – might look a bit like a 21st century reinvention of a tuk-tuk, but it's been designed primarily for 'last-mile' deliveries in urban areas – with a focus on having the lightest vehicle weight to cargo volume possible.

The machine will be offered with two different levels of power, and will be classed as either as a three-wheel motorcycle or moped (which fits into vehicles classes L5e-B or L2U-e).
The EVIG measures 3140mm long, 1400mm wide and 1700mm high, and will be offered with pick-up, cargo, cool and tool bodies. It will weight 250kg unloaded, and can carry up to 350kg of cargo volume in a space measuring 2.5m3.
Lower-level 'moped' models will use a 4kW motor that is powered by a 5kWh battery. That gives it a range of 62 miles, while the vehicle has a top speed of 28mph. The version classed as a motorcycle features a 9.7kW motor and 10kWh battery, with a range of 124 miles and a top speed of 37mph.
The electric trike primed to replace your car
The EVIG can be charged using a Type 2 connector – taking between two and eight hours, depending on specification – but it also features a 570w roof-mounted solar panel that can help add extra charge.
Clean Motion says that a combination of the EVIG's light weight, solar panel and small motor makes it significantly more efficient than even an electric car. The firm claims a consumption of 15.5 miles per kWh, and says that 'only' 2.7 tonnes of CO2 is used in the production of an individual machine – compared to around 24 tonnes for an electric car.
The machine is a one-seater, and if offered with standard or comfort seats. A rear-view camera and one or two USB ports are also optional extra.
The EVIG is available to order now, with deliveries due to commence early next year. Prices start from £9350.
